Bench rest shooting with the Arsenal SGL21 was unimpressive. Outfitted with a Midwest Industries front rail at the time, I wondered if it contributed to the 3-5 MOA groups achieved there with Wolf ammo (a representative choice in this AK-variant). Enter the Sledgehammer testing drill I do here in TNP. Initial runs were also lackluster and I was disappointed. Time to regroup and eliminate any possible causative variables. Kind of like the short (for me still) AK fixed stock and the MI rail. That's because the SH offers roll over prone opportunities where variable LOP stocks do best. Lacking any other choice to get that longer length of pull, I outfitted this SGL21 with a Tapco AK folding stock. But to eliminate the tremendous play it had, I screwed and JB Welded the stock into a rigid platform. And the rail came off and I re-fitted the stock forend back one, this time wearing a short Streamlight "Tactical Illuminator Mount" rail for maximum size and weight savings. I wanted barrel harmonics unencumbered as possible (cleaning rod also removed for weight savings in this run). Problem solved. With those mods, the Arsenal SGL21 came alive in "The Sledgehammer" (SH), achieving an impressive 60 points (!), teamed up with a Glock 17 in this run. Also the Weaver #849399 scope-outfitted SGL21 dominated the 200 yd shooting that day with 7 out of 10 hits achieved from barricade.
